Platform data lead – EV

The team can build. They need someone to decide what.

I don’t need the strongest pipeline engineer in the Netherlands. They’ve already got two bright, relatively junior people who can build.

What they need is the person who gives them direction.

Someone who can decide what matters first, develop the team, manage the noise coming from across the business and challenge people when ambition starts running ahead of the foundations.

The data domain sits inside a fast-growing e-mobility SaaS business.

Every charging session connects drivers, vehicles, charge points, operators, roaming partners, tariffs and payments. Add smart charging and the demands of the energy grid, and the data gets messy fairly quickly.

The warehouse exists, but it needs stabilising.

A lot of the data is still relatively raw. There’s the beginning of a data model, but not yet the mature, dependable setup the business needs. Too much historical knowledge also sits with one person.

The journey is fairly clear:

Stabilise the warehouse. Build a proper data model. Improve reliability. Reduce that dependency. Then create the foundations for better analytics and future AI use cases.

Technically, you’ll need to understand:

• Azure SQL
• Azure Data Factory
• Power BI
• Data modelling and warehousing
• ETL/ELT and integrating different data sources

Azure Functions and some .NET would be useful, but they can be learned.

You’ll still be technical, but I’ll be honest: this isn’t a role where you spend every day behind your laptop writing pipelines.

Product, Operations, Engineering, Finance and Commercial will all want something. You’ll need to understand the problem, make sensible trade-offs, protect the team and occasionally say, “Not yet – the foundations aren’t ready.”

Two direct people. Company-wide influence.

The sweet spot could be a Senior Data Engineer already leading unofficially, a hands-on Data/BI Lead from a smaller business, or somebody from consultancy who’s used to walking into ambiguity, working out what matters and bringing people with them.

Energy matters. Communication matters. Ego won’t help much.

They need someone practical enough to create order without disappearing for six months to design the perfect data platform.

Based in the Arnhem area, two office days per week.

Salary up to roughly €90,000, pension, holiday allowance and a €2,000 training budget around it.

If you want to inherit a perfectly mature data platform, this probably isn’t it.
